What is the Caribbean Animation Business Network?

The Caribbean Animation Business Network was launched in January 2022 as a central hub to facilitate professional production and business collaboration between animation studios across the Caribbean region.

This hub hosts an animation production directory, and information on the available incentives in the Caribbean for this sector.”

This hub hosts an animation production directory, and information on the available incentives in the Caribbean for this sector. Through this hub – studios, freelancers, interns, and other support services can find each other, expand workforce capacity, and advance employment opportunities. Potential regional and international clients can also find resources to access the Caribbean animation industry – all in one place.
The Caribbean Animation Business Network is established through its regional partners: The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) in Barbados, Jamaica Animation Nation Network (JANN), the Trinidad and Tobago Animation Network (TTAN) and Anime Caribe also of Trinidad and Tobago. The regional partners currently oversee financial and administrative logistics of the network and the site.

Rationale
The hub was developed as a component of the Caribbean Animation Business Model, a regional project funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) through the Cultural and Creative Industries Innovation Fund (CIIF). The project (2019-2021) was led by the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), in partnership with the NCF, JANN, TTAN, and Animae Caribe.

“The Caribbean Animation Business Model was a two-phase project which sought test a framework which facilitates Caribbean studios working together over a virtual platform.”

The Caribbean Animation Business Model was a two-phase project which sought to test a framework which facilitates Caribbean studios working together over a virtual platform. The central aim of the research was to identify a method for Caribbean animation studios to increase their chances of attracting international contracts, establishing the Caribbean as a location for the outsourcing of 2D and 3D animation and VFX projects. Phase 1 of the project focused on researching the animation sector in the region; this research was compiled into a REPORT.
The project’s second phase comprised primarily of two pragmatic deliverables.
The first was a studio testing exercise among three Caribbean territories (Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago) to create a short animation over a cloud-based animation pipeline platform.
The second element was to design a functional web portal to facilitate regional studios to build capacity, attract potential employment opportunities, and develop their own IP.
That web portal is the very site you are now accessing: www.caribbeananimation.com.
